Watch for open restaurant tables and hold a reservation
Last updated
The problem
Popular restaurants release tables at a specific hour weeks in advance and fill up in minutes, while cancellations pop up at random times during the week. Checking Resy, OpenTable or SevenRooms twenty times a day by hand is impractical, so most people miss the released slots unless they happen to refresh at the right moment.
How the agent works
You give the agent the restaurant name, booking platform link, acceptable dates, time window (for example, Friday or Saturday between 6:30 PM and 8:30 PM), party size, and seating preference (indoor, bar, patio). The agent checks availability on a schedule or watches for newly opened slots, compares what it finds against your rules, and either sends you an instant link to grab the table or holds a reservation that has no non-refundable deposit, then adds the time and cancellation deadline to your calendar.
Setup steps
- Pick the restaurant, party size, acceptable dates, earliest and latest seating times, and which seating areas you will accept
- Check the restaurant's release schedule (for example, 14 days out at 9:00 AM) and its cancellation or no-show fee policy
- Configure your agent or watcher to check the booking page at release time and at reasonable intervals for cancellations
- Set a hard rule: if a booking requires a prepayment or a cancellation fee, the agent must alert you rather than booking automatically
- When a matching slot is found or held, have the agent send the confirmation details and record the last free-cancellation time on your calendar
- Confirm the reservation yourself and cancel any backup holds promptly so you do not get charged or block tables you will not use

Human in the loop
You confirm any reservation that carries a deposit, minimum spend, or cancellation fee, and you decide which single reservation to keep if you had multiple options on your list.
Risks and guardrails
Many restaurants charge $25 to $100+ per person for late cancellations or no-shows, so never let an agent book a fee-bearing table without your explicit confirmation, and never hold overlapping reservations at multiple restaurants. Respect booking platforms' rate limits and terms of service so your dining account does not get flagged as a scalper bot.
ROI notes
Judge it by whether you get into restaurants on the nights you actually want without spending your week refreshing booking apps, and make sure zero late-cancellation fees happen.
