Run browser QA checks on core user flows before release

The problem

Unit tests pass while the actual site breaks: a CSS tweak hides the checkout button on mobile screens, a third-party script throws a console error, or the sign-up flow gets stuck on a validation step. Maintaining brittle selector-based end-to-end tests for every screen size takes time small teams rarely have.

How the agent works

After a staging deploy or on a daily schedule, a browser-capable agent opens your staging or preview URL in headless Chrome at both desktop and mobile viewport sizes and walks through a plain-language list of critical user journeys (such as searching, filtering, signing up with a test account, or reaching checkout). At each step it checks that the expected page state rendered, records browser console errors, failed network requests and layout overflow, and saves screenshots. When a flow fails, it posts a bug report with the exact steps, viewport size, console log and screenshot, or converts the working path into a repeatable Playwright test.

Setup steps
  1. Write 3 to 5 plain-language user journeys that must never break (for example: homepage search, sign-up form, pricing to checkout, mobile nav)
  2. Create dedicated staging test accounts and sandbox payment credentials so the agent never touches production orders or real customer data
  3. Run the browser agent against your preview or staging URL at both desktop (1280px) and mobile (390px) viewports
  4. Have it capture console errors, uncaught page exceptions, 4xx/5xx network responses, horizontal overflow, and a screenshot at each milestone
  5. Send failures to Slack or your issue tracker with the screenshot, reproduction steps, and the commit or deploy that introduced the change
  6. Where a flow is stable, have the agent export or update a deterministic Playwright test so CI runs it fast on every pull request

Human in the loop

Developers review reported bugs, verify visual issues from the screenshots, and approve any code or test changes before merging.

Risks and guardrails

Running a browser agent against production forms can create fake leads, trigger real emails, or pollute analytics, so target staging or preview URLs (or filter out test traffic and stop before submitting live forms). Cap steps and runtime per run so a stuck loop does not burn tokens.

ROI notes

Track regressions caught on staging before customers report them, mobile layout bugs spotted, and hours saved compared with manual pre-release click-through testing.

Also useful: write unit tests for legacy code; triage failed CI builds; get a first-pass review on pull requests.
